Using a Barcode or RFID Reader To Enter Data

Ragic supports entering field values without typing by using a barcode scanner (wired or Bluetooth) or an RFID reader. If you are using the Ragic App, you can also scan barcodes directly in designated fields to auto-fill the data.

Entering Data with a Barcode or RFID Reader

The way barcode scanners and RFID readers work is straightforward: once the device is properly connected to your computer or any device running a browser, scanning a barcode inputs the encoded information at the current cursor position, such as an ID or a sequence of numbers. This behavior is independent of Ragic and works in Word, Excel, browser address bars, or any other input field.

If your cursor is in the browser’s address bar and you scan a barcode that contains a URL (QR Code), the URL will be entered automatically, and the browser will open that webpage.

When viewing a Ragic page in a browser with your cursor in a data field, scanning a barcode will enter its value into that field. If your cursor is in the Full Text Search bar or a filter field, the scanned value will be entered there to help you find records that contain it.

Scanning Barcodes in the Ragic App

Although the Ragic mobile app supports external barcode scanners (including Bluetooth models), it also provides a built-in scanning interface for convenience. When you tap the barcode icon in an "input field" or in the "Full Text Search bar", the app will open your phone’s camera to scan the barcode and fill the field with the scanned value.

A barcode icon appears whenever scanning is supported. Tapping it opens the camera, and the scanned value is filled in automatically.

Examples:

Scanning a barcode to fill a field value

Scanning a barcode to enter a search term in the full text search bar on the app’s Listing Page

In addition, if you need to access a specific sheet or record in the Ragic App by scanning a QR Code, open the menu from the top left corner of the app homepage and use the "Scan QR Code" function. When you scan a QR Code generated from a record URL or a sheet URL, the app will open the corresponding sheet or record immediately.

Note: For instructions on generating sheet or record URL QR Codes, refer here.

Follow-up Actions Triggered by Barcode Scanning

In Ragic, barcode scanning works the same as manual data entry. Any action that can be triggered by manual input will also be triggered by barcode input, for example:

• Triggering Formulas that reference the scanned values

• Triggering Link and Load by entering values into linked fields

• Entering URLs with special action parameters in the browser address bar

If an action cannot be triggered by manual input, it cannot be triggered by barcode scanning. For example, scanning a barcode will not start an approval workflow if manual entry does not trigger it.
